Our commitment
Insurance runs on trust — and on personal information. We process your information lawfully, reasonably and only for the purpose of providing you with insurance services, in line with the eight conditions for lawful processing set out in POPIA.
The eight conditions we follow
- Accountability — we take responsibility for complying with POPIA.
- Processing limitation — we only collect what we need, lawfully and with your consent or another lawful basis.
- Purpose specification — we collect information for specific, defined purposes.
- Further processing limitation — we do not use your information for unrelated purposes.
- Information quality — we take reasonable steps to keep your information complete and accurate.
- Openness — we tell you what we collect and why.
- Security safeguards — we protect your information against loss, damage and unauthorised access.
- Data subject participation — you may access and correct your information.
Your rights
- To be told that your personal information is being collected, and by whom.
- To ask what personal information we hold about you.
- To request that inaccurate or out-of-date information be corrected, or that information be deleted where we are no longer entitled to keep it.
- To object to the processing of your information, on reasonable grounds.
- To refuse or withdraw consent to direct marketing.
- To be notified if your information has been compromised.
- To lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
Special personal information
Some insurance products may require special personal information — for example, criminal behaviour relevant to underwriting a risk. We only process such information where the law allows it or with your explicit consent.
Security breaches
If we have reasonable grounds to believe that your personal information has been accessed or acquired by an unauthorised person, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as required by section 22 of POPIA.
